Synergos Social Entrepreneur & Co-Founder, Nafham Education

Mostafa Farahat is a co-founder and current general manager of Nafham, an online educational resource designed to align with and compliment public school curriculum. With billions of dollars spent on private tutors throughout the Arab world every year, it was clear to Mostafa that schools alone are unable to help students reach their full educational potential. Mostafa created Nafham as a website to host professionally reviewed, crowd-sourced instructional videos on a variety of topics, ranging from five to 20 minutes long. Videos are sorted by subject, grade, and term, making the website easily navigable, student-friendly, and ultimately more useful. After starting with content for curricula in Egypt, Nafham now also has content for Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Algeria, and Syria and reaches about 700,000 users each month.

Nafham also utilizes the theory of gamification to make its resources as entertaining and user-friendly as possible. Through regular competitions, students are invited to submit their own videos, encouraging co-learning, while enabling students to engage with content in a variety of ways. As well as helping others, this active participation has been shown to increase understanding of the students producing the videos themselves, since the process of explanation enhances their own comprehension. Through Nafham, Mostafa is providing a new generation of students in the Middle East with the solid educational foundation necessary to ensure their future success.
