Strategy Planning, Instituto Rio

Claudia Maria Jeunon Sousa was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She was graduated with a degree in Communications and holds an MBA in Marketing and E-Business. For the past five years Ms. Jeunon has been using her expertise in the area of Corporative Social Responsibility. After working in several multinational companies such as Johnson Wax, Nabisco and Bausch & Lomb, she joined Fundacao Roberto Marinho which develops many educational programs using television and other media. As Superintendent of the Marketing and Communications Department, she was awarded Premio Eco of the American Chamber of Commerce for "Futura," a private educational television project.

Until recently, Ms. Jeunon worked as the Executive Director of CSN Foundation, sponsored by the largest steel company in Brazil. There, she achieved the goals of focusing the foundation toward educational projects oriented to labor and shifting the foundation's target from employees to the community. She expanded the foundation's work from two to six regions in Brazil and was responsible for the internalization of the social responsibility in the company towards other stakeholders. She also created the basis and implemented a fund that sponsors community initiatives in income generation.

Presently, Ms. Jeunon is working on the strategic planning for Instituto Rio, a new community foundation in Rio de Janeiro.

Instituto Rio is a community foundation that combines the expertise of national corporate social responsibility executives, local, state and federal government members, NGOs, and international grant makers and associations in Brazil. The Foundation is committed to fostering strong and uncompromising community leadership and to helping the "less than the less favored". Instituto Rio aims to make a difference for very poor communities by focusing on children, adolescents and women; by helping communities to provide at least their basic needs of education, health and food; and by changing the culture of low level social consciousness among business leaders. To this end, the Institute, in collaboration with the government, has begun creating an intelligent tool (software) to help identify some of the biggest issues and opportunities; a database of NGO expertise and leadership; community trainings in management and finance; and meetings with business leaders to illustrate the benefits of private social investment.
