Managing Director, Operations

Sharon Lungrin is the Managing Director, Operations at Synergos, responsible for finance, operations, human resources, and information technology. Synergos is a global nonprofit organization that brings people together to solve complex problems of poverty. Synergos works on issues such as health and nutrition, agriculture, education, and employment – creating opportunities for individuals and communities to thrive.

From 2010 to late 2012, Ms. Lungrin provided strategy and operations consulting services to nonprofit leaders, school leaders and venture-backed companies. Prior to that, Ms. Lungrin was the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of the Internationals Network for Public Schools, a national school development organization committed to creating and networking small high schools serving recent immigrant students who are English Language Learners. Ms. Lungrin joined Internationals during its start-up phase and played a key role in guiding the organization to maturity: During her five-year tenure, the number of Internationals schools doubled and the funder base more than quadrupled. Her contributions included building and managing the finance and accounting infrastructure, engaging the Board of Directors and leading the development of a five-year strategic plan.

Ms. Lungrin has a 15-year track record of collaborating with global cross-functional teams in the private and nonprofit sector. Beginning in New York City in 1993, she worked with the Women’s Environment and Development Organization and the International Women’s Health Coalition to ensure that the voices and insights of women from the developing world were included in the 1994 United Nations Conference on Population and Development. Ms. Lungrin joined Axiom Venture Partners in 1997, where she managed a portfolio of biotech and communications companies, tracking performance against benchmarks, identifying new opportunities, and conducting due diligence on promising investment opportunities. After business school, Ms. Lungrin was selected for a new Finance Leadership Development Program at Whirlpool Corporation. At Whirlpool, she created an overview of the financial performance for the incoming CFO and prepared the Operations Report for the Board of Directors. She also worked as the lead financial manager for Whirlpool’s $1 billion business with Lowe’s Corporation.

Ms. Lungrin earned her Bachelor of Arts in International Studies with a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean from Vassar College. In 2001, she earned her MBA from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California with a focus on Finance. She is fluent and literate in Spanish. Ms. Lungrin comes from a working-class Jamaican immigrant family and attended public school in New York City.
