Sarah Mousa is the founder of Shamsina, an initiative to capitalize on Egypt’s abundant solar energy sources to benefit isolated, underprivlidged communities. The project serves a dual purpose, to provide electricity to areas currently off the grid, and to generate employment opportunities.
Specifically, the initiative involves the creation of a business for the production of solar-powered water heaters out of locally sourced materials. Through a series of phases, the project will raise awareness on the potential for solar energy technologies, train selected community members to construct the heaters, and employ these members in a business for the local production and sale of the heaters.
Shamsina hopes to thus provide an inexpensive, clean energy source to those most in need and set a green example for others to follow.
