Mónica Tapia
Mónica Tapia is Founder and Executive Director of Alternativas y Capacidades, (www.alternativasycapacidades.org), a capacity building organization in Mexico that aims to strengthen Civil Society Organizations, grantmakers and citizen initiatives for social policy and development.
She has taught and co-authored materials on Advocacy and Social Development, training thousands Civil Society leaders. She has designed grantmaking programs for corporate foundations, private foundations and community foundations. She has researched and advanced policy-making for an enabling environment for Civil Society and public grants allocation.
She is founding Board Member of the Citizen Coalition for Education reform (www.porlaeducacion.mx) and founding member of the Mexican Network for Just and Sustainable Cities.
She has coauthored publications and handbooks on capacity building, advocacy, legal incorporation, the legal and fiscal framework for CSOs, transparency on the allocation of public resources to CSOs, corporate philanthropy, community philanthropy and corporate social responsibility.
She graduated from El Colegio de México and pursued postgraduate studies in Social Policy and Planning in Developing Countries at the London School of Economics and in Latin American Studies at the University of Oxford. She also worked for the federal government, for the President’s Office for Regional Development Planning and as advisor for education reforms and the Chiapas’ conflict negotiation.
