University for a Night 2009

Each year since 1997, University for a Night has brought together leaders from business, government, civil society and philanthropy to share experiences and ideas about how to make a better world.

Participants at the 2009 event, held on September 21 in New York City, also honored two people whose works represent what the evening is all about. The 2009 recipients of the David Rockefeller Bridging Leadership Honorees were:

  • Kofi Annan, Seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations and Founder and Chair, Kofi Annan Foundation
  • Sheela Patel, Founder and Director, Society for the Promotion of Area Resource Centres, and Chair, Shack/Slum Dwellers International.

Mr. Annan and Ms. Patel were joined in the opening plenary discussion by:
