Corporate Sector Leadership in Social Responsibility

Abstract

This is a keynote address to the Business Group for Thai Society in Bangkok, February 4, 1999. It examines five examples of business alliances -- where business men and women are working together on social and environmental issues in their communities. Among lessons learned are that:

+ Crisis can mean opportunity

+ A few leaders working together can effect major changes

+ Collaboration across sectors -- businesses with civil society and government -- can have a multiplying effect

+ Groups that define a clear vision along with concrete, achievable, measurable objectives can create real change.
