Abstract

This is a report on the International Symposium on Microfinance as a Tool for Peacebuilding held in Cali, Colombia in 2009 to explore how microfinance can be used to strengthen recovery from conflict in Colombia and other parts of the world.

The symposium brought together over 2,000 participants from 19 countries and, due to extensive media coverage, significantly raised the profile of microfinance in Colombia.

It was organized by the AlvarAlice Foundation, which is chaired by María Eugenia Garcés, a member of Synergos' Global Philanthropists Circle.
