Role of Community Foundations in Rebuilding and Recovery By Shannon E. St. John | March 2006 | View Full Text
Abstract
This power point by Senior Fellow and Synergos Senior Advisor, Shannon St. John, discerns how community foundations can positively contribute to the rehabilitation of communities in need of disaster relief. St. John highlights the importance of generating local control and support in preparation for long-term sustainability of the foundation. She also emphasizes the leadership role community foundations can play in a post-disaster community by using their knowledge and networks to convene and coordinate solutions. Ultimately a community foundation has the tools and resources to generate new community systems rather than replicating any prior imbalances or injustices.
