The Challenge of Regional Grantmaker Collaboration on HIV/AIDS By Barry Smith | October 2003 | View Full Text
Abstract
This presentation by Barry Smith, Synergos' Regional Director in South Africa, was presented at a conference in Johannesburg. It addresses the challenges of grant maker collaboration on HIV/AIDS. In addition to addressing the community challenges and funding contexts, it illustrates key objectives of the Southern African HIV/AIDS Intermediary Grantmaker Collaborative (SAHIC). Smith points out that HIV/AIDS is a regional problem that communities are responding to, with numerous initiatives emerging, but their effectiveness is blocked by lack of information, partnerships and funding. Therefore participating organizations of SAHIC have come together to create a cross-border collaboration with existing initiatives on the ground.
