About the Innovative Development Network

Overview
The Innovative Development Network (IDN) brings together individuals working to engage their peers in global poverty alleviation. Members are in the first decade of their careers and work in many fields, including business, the arts, non-profit, government and technology.

Bringing Together a New Generation
This year, the IDN will co-host a symposium with other like-minded organizations to further address issues related to poverty reduction. Though the final topic of the symposium has yet to be determined, potential subjects include global terrorism, democracy, war and armed conflict. The symposium, scheduled for June 2003, will not only offer participants an opportunity to hear from and discuss issues related to global poverty with distinguished speakers, scholars and policymakers, but will also provide them with a chance to share their thoughts and take action on these issues.

A Growing Network
Members of the IDN can choose to further participate by joining a web-based discussions on issues related to poverty and social justice, networking with other members, or helping to plan upcoming forums. The IDN encourages participants to sign up with the forthcoming searchable networking database. Accessible only by password, the database will enable individuals to identify members with similar regional or professional interests.

History of Fighting Poverty
IDN is sponsored by The Synergos Institute, which since 1986 has been engaged in a range of projects and partnerships to fight global poverty. Synergos works with partners in Latin America, Southern Africa and Southeast Asia to strengthen the local philanthropic sector. Through work with grantmaking foundations, associations of grantmaking foundations and philanthropic centers, Synergos co-sponsors workshops and leads consultancies. Synergos also sponsors numerous research projects over the sector.
