Council on Foundations launches website on philanthropy in economic downturn
The U.S. Council on Foundations has created a new website, Economic Xchange (www.cofinteract.org/economy/), where members of the philanthropic sector can exchange information, ideas and approaches about the economic crisis and its impact on philanthropy. The site’s key offering is a constantly updated list of links to articles and information about philanthropy and the current economic crisis, with space for readers to comment and discussion each article. It also includes a growing calendar of events.
Report examines foundation diversity
Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors (RPA) and the Council on Foundations have published Diversity & Inclusion: Lessons from the Field, a report collecting reflections about diversity from chief executives and trustees at several major U.S. foundations and corporate giving programs. This report builds on Philanthropy in a Changing Society: Achieving Effectiveness through Diversity, an earlier examination of approaches to foundation diversity over the past 25 years. “Our world is rapidly changing, from the United States electing its first African American president, to an economic crisis of unprecedented and truly global scope....By learning from and acting on our colleagues’ experiences in incorporating diversity, we can all better understand and strengthen our communities” said Melissa Berman, CEO of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors. Contributors include Ann Wiener and Victor De Luca of the Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation, Gilbert Casellas of Dell, Sterling Speirn of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and Benjamin Todd Jealous of the NAACP, among others. Both reports were funded by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and are available online at the Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors website www.rockpa.org.
