Human Resources Intern
Reports To
Associate Director, HR & Administration
Basic Function
Provides administrative support in the area of Human Resources, which includes, but is not limited to, payroll, benefits, transit check disbursement, attendance recordkeeping and research.
Specific Duties
- Performs general research and analysis on special HR projects, such as compensation surveys, cost of living increases, benefit cost savings, etc.
- Assists in the processes of employment, payroll and benefit enrollment for new staff members.
- Schedules orientation sessions to ensure all new staff are familiarized with all programs of the organization.
- Distributes payroll and transit checks on a bi-monthly basis.
- Prepares vouchers for all insurance premiums and sends checks to appropriate vendors.
- Files appropriate information in personnel and insurance folders.
- Assists with and coordinates recruitment efforts.
- Processes employment verifications.
- Meet and greet all visitors that enter the building and contact the appropriate person to escort them.
- Answer the general telephone when necessary.
Qualifications
- Some knowledge of current trends and practices of human resource administration and basic understanding of employee classification, compensation and benefit selection.
- Proficient in the use of Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook/Internet.
- Ability to carry out assigned projects to completion; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; establish and maintain solid relationships with applicants, staff members, vendors and all visitors; maintain confidential and sensitive information; and to follow instructions.
- Ability to listen and ascertain the needs of staff and board; to communicate accurate information concerning policies and procedures.
- Articulate, courteous, tactful and presents a neat appearance.
Commitment
10-15 hours per week, but would welcome more.
