Usama Mohammed Fathallah

Synergos Social Entrepreneur & Founder, Konoz Yadaweya

Usama Mohammed Fathallah established Konoz Yadaweya, which is the first Egyptian e-commerce enterprise dedicated to marketing traditional Egyptian handicrafts, enhancing their competitiveness within the global market through fair-trade marketing, and investing in the capacity-building of artisan communities in Egypt.

The website aims to preserve Egypt’s diverse cultural identity and build long-term relationships in places where skilled artisans and their partners lack opportunities for stable marketing and a consistent income stream. By providing customers with information about Egypt’s cultural heritage and individual stories from various artisans, Konoz Yadaweya creates a deeper relationship between the artist and the consumer.

Konoz Yadaweya’s first handmade collections came from 15 different regions and communities in Egypt: Nuba in Aswan, Sinai, Shalateen from the Red Sea region, Naqada and Hagaza from Qena, Siwa, Sohag, Fayoum, and from the Old Cairo and Delta region. Usama believes that the organization’s artisan network will eventually extend to cover all of Egypt’s artisans and communities, and that it will also serve as a social business network which any community can profit from.
