Roland S. Harris III
Roland S. Harris III is Vice President, GBS Americas Region, Strategy and Market Development of IBM. He was appointed to this position in January 2007. In this capacity, Mr. Harris is responsible for assessing market requirements, developing effective marketing campaigns, engineering sales/account growth strategies and conducting the Industry Solutions Sales Program.
Previously, Mr. Harris held the position of Vice President, Global Pandemic Strategy, leading the development and implementation of a global strategy for pandemic preparedness. This strategy was designed to protect the health of IBM's employees and clients, minimize disease transmission, and promote business continuity for IBM and its clients in the event of a pandemic.
From 1999 to 2006, Mr. Harris served as the Global Managing Partner for IBM's Public Sector Global Consulting Services practice. In this role, Mr. Harris led strategy and business process consultants and service delivery experts specializing in helping State and Local Governments, Central Governments, Healthcare and Education industries leverage world-class technology to improve business performance. From 1996 to 1999, Mr. Harris served as the General Manager of Outsourcing to the Healthcare and Insurance industries.
In 1995 and 1996, Mr. Harris was Vice President of Product Marketing, North America. His responsibilities included the coordination of hardware sales throughout the United States and Canada. Prior to 1995, Mr. Harris held a number of executive positions, including Director of Availability Services, Trading Area General Manager and Director of Software Sales.
Mr. Harris was recently appointed to the Board of the Synergos Institute. He has served on the board of a number of technology associations, such as the Enterprise Solutions, Information Technology Association of America and the Professional Services Council, as well as the board of the Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri and the Selective Service Board for the State of Maryland. Mr. Harris was a member of the State of Maryland Child Care Business Partnership Team and a member of the New York City Internet Task Force. From 1999 through 2001, he served as a member of the Judith P. Hoyer Blue Ribbon Commission on the funding of early childcare and education for the Governor of Maryland.
Mr. Harris received a Juris Doctorate in 1978 from the University of Connecticut and a BA from Tufts University in 1975. He has attended executive training programs associated with Dartmouth's Tuck School and the Wharton Executive Program at the University of Pennsylvania.
