Nada Abdel Salam founded Zafir in 2006 with a simple product idea and an ambitious vision. Zafir would be the first 100% Egyptian t-shirt brand, embracing Egyptian pop culture while acting as a medium for social commentary. The broader goal was to become a platform for artists and designers, and to showcase creative Egyptian talent while advocating for the importance of ethics, quality, collaboration, and social responsibility.
In 2011 Nada opened Studio Zafir to pioneer new design directions and new collaborations by working with creators from various fields and building long-term partnerships with established and upcoming brands. As a result of these efforts, Zafir now offers an eclectic mix of accessories, art pieces, products, books, music, film and fashion under one roof. The Studio offers product designers and independent artists a space to showcase and sell their work and offers funding and production aid to help their professional development. Furthermore, Zafir provides artists with a space to conduct workshops, enabling them to share their talent and skills with others. Since its initial founding, Zafir has worked with over 80 designers and artists from Egypt & the Arab world and with numerous factories and printing workshops to create hundreds of products which speak for Egyptians, about Egyptians, and to Egyptians.
