James Sligar
James Sligar is a Partner at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy law firm in New York City. He specializes in trusts and estates, including estate planning, trust and estate administration, fiduciary income taxation, and international estate planning. He also specializes in not-for-profit corporations, including the incorporation and governance of not-for-profit corporations, charitable and deferred giving techniques, tax status, unrelated business income tax questions, and private foundation excise tax questions. Before joining the firm in 1991, he was counsel in the Legal Department for Rockefeller Family & Associates. Prior to that Mr. Sligar was associated with the law firm of Webster & Sheffield until 1985. He received a BA from Dartmouth College graduating Summa Cum Laude and received a JD from Harvard Law School. He was admitted to the New York State bar in 1975 and is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. He serves as a volunteer counsel for the International Planned Parenthood Federation, is a Director of Planned Parenthood of Hudson Peconic, and is a Director of Family Care International. Mr. Sligar is also the author of several publications on a wide range of subjects including trusts and estates, tax laws affecting private foundations and United Nations Human Rights Covenants.
