Abdi (Yenni) Suryaningati
Abdi Suryaningati is currently the Deputy Director for Organizational Development and International Relations of Yappika – Civil Society Alliance for Democracy in Aceh, Indonesia. Her role in the organization is to manage the overall in-house support system that includes research, publication, consultancy, training and public relations. She is also responsible for overseeing the work of the finance and office management divisions, and to expand Yappika’s network at the international level.
In addition, Ms. Suryaningati serves as a trainer, facilitator and consultant for outside organizations on issues related to conflict analysis, program development and management, and internal governance of not-for-profit organizations.
Ms. Suryaningati previously served as Yappika’s executive director and as executive director of the Indonesia-Canada Friendship Foundation. Prior to joining Yappika, Ms. Suryaningati was involved with various developmental consulting projects, including “Recycling Development Program,” a joint effort between the Metropolitan Environmental Improvement Programme (MEIP), the UNDP and the World Bank, and served as a Project Coordinator for the Institute for Development
YAPPIKA, an NGO and civil society alliance for democracy, is established to function as a resource organization aimed at strengthening the capacity of Indonesian NGOs, NGO networks and community-based organizations to promote democracy and social transformation. It supports grassroots empowerment initiatives, advocacy and public awareness campaigns at national and local levels, as well as maintaining an in-house support system for capacity building purposes. At the national level, Yappika is directly involved with various advocacy movements toward public policy and laws relating to democracy, governance and human rights. As a part of its work to promote genuine democracy, Yappika was highly involved in supporting peaceful resolutions towards conflicts in Aceh and Papua, as well as promoting constitutional reform and a decentralization process that will assure peoples’ participation in reconciliation; enhancing integrated community-based socio-economic development; promoting democratic local governance; and being involved with national level policy advocacy on issues related to democratic governance.
