Groundbreaking Study on Grantmakers in Brazil Co-published with GIFE
Synergos and our Brazilian partner, the Group of Institutes, Foundations and Private Enterprises (GIFE), have just published a study of local private nonprofit grantmaking organizations that support social development. Co-authors Andres Falconer and Roberto Vilela led the research for the study, which is titled Recursos Privados para Fins Públicos -- As Grantmakers Brasileiras ( Private Resources for Public Ends -- Brazilian Grantmakers). It is 178 pages long and in Portuguese only. The study found that although these organizations are, on the whole, a new phenomenon in Brazil, the 30 organizations profiled channel about R$200 million (US $80 million) in donations to other nonprofit organizations and individuals. Most importantly, they contribute to the independence of the nonprofit sector.
In addition to a description and analysis of overall findings, Recursos Privados para Fins Públicos provides details about the 30 organizations, with contact information, program descriptions and the amount of resources they provide to other groups and individuals. Recursos Privados para Fins Públicos is available directly from GIFE.
This study was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Tinker Foundation, with additional support from the AVINA Foundation.
